Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaker. She founded Feminist Frequency a website that includes videos and comments on the representation of women in pop cultural. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has been awarded prizes for her work, is an activist blogger. She is the founder and director of executive for Feminist Frequency which is an education non-profit website which explores representations of women in pop media narratives. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they appear in popular culture. Additionally she aims to create the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women and the marginalized communities of people. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. Apart from being an acclaimed public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age she was intrigued by the issue of gender identity and feminist thought. While still at school in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. The ebullient young woman was targeted on the internet for her website featuring a series about gender and videogames. However, the attacks did not hinder her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Many awards have been presented to her as a way of acknowledging her contributions to the field she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency as an educational non-profit that examines how women are represented in popular culture narratives.
